How to Set an Intention For a Bufo Ceremony
As the creator of The Spirit Molecule Retreat, I feel the deep need for guidance and care when preparing for a Bufo Alvarius Ceremony.
An intention is where you place your attention during a Bufo ceremony or practice of personal value.
When I support you in the pre-integration stage of sitting with Bufo Alvarius, 5-MeO-DMT, I first ask you to consider why you desire to be with this medicine.
It is in this prep stage that we start to form our own language to our ceremony, which is part of coming to intention.
It’s possible to have many names for the experience of Bufo.
A conversation with God, a surrender, a sitting, a medicine…
Find your language to what you are doing. After you discover what you want to call your experience, you can start to call in your intention.
For example, If I describe my Bufo encounter as having a conversation with God, then I could ask God to present my intention to me.
I could also have a pre conversation with God and tell God what I feel I am suffering from or feeling a lack of.
Feeling is the greatest part of setting an intention. You must be willing to feel your feelings to their deepest levels possible now. This is also a skill I can teach you that will be very important for integration and life and love embodied.
If you are very devoted to your spiritual path, no matter what the language is, the conversation around your experience will take priority over any other conversation.
Your inner dialogue will be held with silence for as long as you can manage. In these sits in silence, whether it be in a bedroom or in nature, you can hear your intention come through.
Intentions can come through silence, walks, creating art, arguing, etc.
The more we understand our own inner dialogue and our self-sabotaging talk, the more we can create space to listen to what is serving us. The voices of our inner child, our ancestors and our Mother Earth.
If you are very new to listening within or discerning the ego from the divine then a counselor or facilitator can guide you, in discovering a map to feeling and intention.
I help participants by giving them prompts to journal or points to consider.
Somatic experiences are also wonderful to find deep intentions. All our answers are within, but it’s helpful to have a map sometimes.
What is the Difference Between an Intention and a Desired Result?
An intention doesn’t carry an image or limited picture of an end result.
For instance, I may want to be free from the fear of small spaces or claustrophobia, but my intention would not be to end my claustrophobic tendency.
My intention would be better stated in a way that affirms the freedom I am looking for rather than the fear of the fear.
However, it is important to feel the fear to create an opening.
My intention could be:
May I be free in all space and feel spaciousness in any circumstance no matter what.
A simple way of stating this intention:
May I be free
A very simple intention is one word:
Freedom
In each of these intentions I am focusing on the liberation I will feel when the fear is no longer expressing itself.
What Happens If You Have Two Intentions?
From my own experience with Bufo, I have used two intentions together quite beautifully. My first two intentions I used on my first ceremony were:
Bliss
Gentle
This makes me laugh quite a bit because anyone who sits with Bufo knows it’s not usually “gentle.” At least not in the transition stage when you first engage with the medicine.
Nonetheless, using “Bliss” and “Gentle” guided my experience when the medicine peaked. When you have a deep personal intention it’s not easy to explain to another, but you know it’s yours and you own it.
It may feel better to not tell anyone your intention until after the ceremony is complete.
When you have your Bufo Ceremony you can say the intention silently to yourself as you sit down and as you breathe the smoke in.
You can repeat your intention while transitioning the ego during the first stages of the medicine…while it’s taking its path in your body. (Having a one word intention helps with this so you don’t need to use your mind too much.)
Finally, remember your intention is to aid you in surrendering to the wisdom of the experience.
Once you are in the medicine your intention may look or feel different than your mind imagined.
You may even laugh at the idea of intention since ultimately it dissolves too.
But this isn’t a reason to skip out on intention, we move from one place to another intentionally not ignorantly.
This is the true power of the medicine… to show us our universal intention dissolved from our ego.
Release your attachment to your intention and any result it could provide you.
Bufo is the teacher.
The Toad is the teacher.
Use your language and also allow other languages and symbols to unfold that you never considered.
My fondest lessons from the Spirit Molecule are the ones that teach me compassion and equanimity… reminding me that I am not superior or inferior to anything or anyone.
Form, or forming intentions, is not about getting it perfect, right or better.
I wish you all the best in your Bufo Ceremony! You already won because you were born and this medicine has presented itself to you.
There is nothing to lose.
Go deep and feel true natural reality that is you.
